NUVAR · RELEASE NOTES

Changelog

Newest first
1.9.1LatestJuly 2026
  • Long films keep their sound — past roughly 250–370 shots the finished film could come out completely silent — no dialogue, no voice-over, no music — and be reported as a success. The exact point moved with how long your project folder’s name was. Sound now survives well past any feature length, and a mix that ever does fail says so plainly instead of showing a tick.
  • The animatic export is much faster — the old default format encoded slower than the film runs, so a long animatic could be stopped mid-export with a message blaming your clips. MP4 is the default now: several times faster and a smaller file.
  • You can stop an export, and see what it is doing — a □ Stop button sits beside Export, and the progress names the stage instead of a number that does not move for minutes.
  • A network hiccup no longer costs you a generation — with fal and Freepik keys, one dropped connection could discard an image you had already been charged for, even a finished one. Those now ride out a blip. Cancelling is heard before the request goes out, and a started job hands back its id.
  • Password reset works on macOS — on Mac builds “forgot password” could never actually send, yet said “check your inbox” anyway. It works now.
  • The window snaps to half the screen again — below a certain width the header cut off and its buttons could not be reached at all.
1.9.0July 2026
  • Clip sound and your voice-over now both play — a generated video brings its own audio, and a voice or dialogue you add on top used to replace it. They now run as two tracks, with the clip’s own sound ducking under the spoken line so the voice stays clear. In the editing timeline each clip’s sound gets its own CLIP lane; one click switches it off.
  • The in-app agent runs on Claude or on GPT (STUDIO) — pick the model in the agent panel’s header. GPT models use your OpenAI key, Claude models your Anthropic key, and the choice is remembered.
  • Two editing fixes — dragging the playhead no longer stops at the edge of the window (pushing against it scrolls the view along), and rebuilding V1 from the storyboard no longer slides it under a clip parked on V2.
  • Fully English — the last German strings are gone, including the file-picker button the operating system was labelling in the system language.
1.8.0July 2026
  • Sturdier project files — a corrupt or empty project now auto-restores your newest valid backup instead of refusing to open, and quitting always flushes your latest edits to disk. Restoring a backup no longer shortens your undo history.
  • More resilient long operations — a brief network hiccup during a long generation no longer loses the job.
  • Stability & polish pass — preview memory-leak fixes and a range of smaller robustness improvements throughout.
1.7.9July 2026
  • Image history per shot — every image you generate or edit for a shot is now kept. Right-click a shot → “Image versions…” to flip back through earlier versions and reuse any of them as the shot image, the first frame or the last frame. Nothing gets overwritten anymore.
  • First & last frame for a shot — give a shot a start image and an end image: generate or set a first frame and a last frame (the card shows both), and save a rebuilt image straight into the first or last frame — always keeping your original.
  • Smoother fullscreen preview — fast-skipping through images no longer makes a picture jump larger or slide to one side. Scroll the mouse wheel to page through images; Ctrl/⌘+scroll or double-click to zoom.
1.7.8July 2026
  • Security & stability pass — a broad code audit fixed a handful of edge cases: editing the board while a generation is running no longer loses your changes; the project loader is hardened against malformed or shared project files; timeline trimming is frame-smooth; and crossfade exports keep In/Out trims and subtitles in sync. Plus smaller reliability fixes across image, video and voice generation and the editor.
1.7.7June 2026
  • Hardened, more secure build — NUVAR now ships as a bundled, integrity-protected app package with a locked-down runtime, making the desktop build more tamper-resistant. No changes to how you work.
1.7.6June 2026
  • Rebuild any image with a prompt — open a shot image and describe a change (the background, a building, a character…) and only that part is regenerated. Works in German or English; the original is kept until you accept the result.
  • Pixel-mask inpaint — paint over a region of an image and regenerate just that area with a fresh prompt (uses a fal.ai key).
  • 3D scene → realistic image — turn a 3D viewport layout (the exact camera angle & composition) into a photorealistic image in one click.
  • Per-shot reference images and reusable prompt presets for faster, more consistent edits.
1.7.5June 2026
  • Public beta — NUVAR now shows a BETA badge in the app (header, login screen and footer) to make its public-beta status clear. No functional changes from 1.7.4.
1.7.4June 2026
  • Reliable batch image generation — editing the board while a batch is generating no longer drops the freshly generated images; your edits and the new images are merged safely.
  • Smoother timeline & boards — drag/trim redraws once per frame and large boards no longer stutter while thumbnails build in the background.
  • macOS — the main ⌫ key deletes the selected shot, and the animatic preview uses lightweight thumbnails.
  • Safer projects & exports — you're asked before a project that may be open elsewhere is taken over, project saves are written atomically, and Script → Storyboard auto-lightens an over-long generation instead of failing.
  • AI "balanced" mode now uses the current Sonnet model.
  • Trial enforcement — when the free trial has ended, AI generation and PDF/XML export are blocked until a license is activated (active trials and valid licenses are unaffected).
1.7.3June 2026
  • Stability hardening — a proactive macOS-focused audit closed a class of crashes where one stray value could blank the whole window. Hardened storyboard rendering, image & video generation (single + batch), Script → Storyboard, Find/Replace and the mood board. Fixed Color grade → "Match to reference", and on macOS Cmd+M minimizes the window again (use Ctrl+M for the mood board).
1.7.2June 2026
  • Fix: "Browse File" in the Character Sheet — picking a reference image from disk could throw an error that blocked the whole window with a red error bar. Fixed, and the image loader was hardened so a stray value can never crash the app.
1.7.1June 2026
  • macOS & Linux: images and media load again — local images, videos and 3D models (mood-board pictures, generated frames, references) could appear as a broken icon because the asset loader mishandled absolute paths. Fixed. (Windows was never affected.)
  • Friendlier API-key handling — keys are trimmed of stray spaces/newlines on save and load, so a copy-paste slip no longer triggers a “401 invalid key”. When Claude rejects a key, NUVAR now explains what to fix — and that a Claude.ai chat subscription is not API access (the API is billed separately at console.anthropic.com).
1.7.0June 2026
  • Character Sheet Generator — from a concept (or an existing image as the anchor), NUVAR writes a locked character look and generates a consistent set of views — front, 3/4, side, back, full-body, close-up, expressions — each reference-locked to the front so it stays the same person, then saves it as a character with every view as a reference. Characters Library → ✨ Generate Sheet.
  • Real camera coverage — a new Angle coverage control in Script → Storyboard creates shot/reverse-shot for dialogue and multiple angles of the same beat instead of one shot per line. Right-click a shot → Add coverage angles… to generate reference-locked alternate angles of an existing shot and split the narration across them.
  • Color grading — a non-destructive grade per shot plus a project-wide look: exposure, contrast, saturation, temperature/tint, LUTs (6 cinematic starters + import your own .cube), grain, vignette, blur and a VHS look. Live preview everywhere; baked into the export; one-click Auto correction; Match the look of a reference image; copy a grade onto other shots; export a graded still.
  • Swap an image or video in the editor — Edit Shot → Choose File now accepts a video too (it pulls a poster frame and keeps the clip), with a clear Save confirmation.
  • Credit guard — generating from a card while several shots are still selected now warns before it generates all of them.
  • Keep long shots long — deliberately long shots are no longer capped to a few seconds, and you can Lock a shot's exact length.
1.6.16June 2026
  • Describe a shot with AI — in the shot editor — a new DESCRIBE button writes the shot description for you: if the shot has an image, Claude looks at the frame and describes it; if not, it generates one from the shot name and your director look. One-click undo. (Windows)
  • Frame thumbnails in the Production Schedule — the shooting list now shows each shot's image, so it reads at a glance instead of by code alone.
  • Type in dialogs right after Alt-Tab — switching back to NUVAR from another window no longer leaves fields unresponsive; the window re-focuses immediately.
1.6.15June 2026
  • Animatic export: H.264/MP4 & ProRes/MOV — alongside WebM: universal MP4 for players & YouTube, ProRes 422 HQ as an editing master for Premiere / Resolve / Final Cut. You always pick the save location.
  • Pick the layers to render — a per-act layer checklist (All / Main only / None) with a live shot & runtime counter, so you export exactly what you want.
  • Faster, rock-solid export engine — frames are assembled directly by the built-in encoder instead of being recorded in real time: much faster, and reliable on any graphics hardware.
  • Drag shots between layers — move a card (or a whole multi-selection) into another layer; shot codes renumber automatically.
  • Reorder acts & layers by drag — ⠿ grip in the act header, or grab a LAYER badge; ACT numbers and layer letters correct themselves.
  • PDF export follows your aspect ratio — 9:16, 1:1, 2.39:1 and the rest get matching thumbnails and page layout.
1.6.14June 2026
  • Cutaways & inserts in the final cut — anchor each insert after a main shot, or let AI auto-place them; the animatic preview and the assembled cut both weave them in at the right spot.
  • Batch export — export several images or videos at once, plus single image/video export straight from the lightbox.
  • New header layout — Settings · Export · Tools as three quick-access menus.
  • Cleaner shot cards — duration and insert tags sit on the thumbnail, so the description and the time never overlap (even at small window sizes).
  • Stability & security pass — robust image file-writing (no more “file write error” on re-generate), crash-resilient saving with automatic backup restore, hardened web security.
  • AI imaging — GPT-Image-2 reference images, a neutral quality booster, an anti-montage guard for clean single frames, and script-anchored act/layer naming.
